Geography
Cancún sits on the northeast coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, where the Caribbean Sea meets the Gulf of Mexico. Its 14-mile Hotel Zone curves like a “7” along a narrow barrier island, flanked by Nichupté Lagoon’s mangroves. The region’s limestone bedrock creates cenotes (sinkholes), while coral reefs like Punta Nizuc protect powdery white beaches. Hurricane threats loom from June to November.
